High School District 230 invites students to register for the Operation Snowball Leadership Retreat to be held October 10-13 at Camp Manitoqua in Frankfort, Illinois.
Operation Snowball is a weekend that focuses on building skills for leadership development. Some of the topics discussed include communication skills, decision making, problem solving, peer pressure, coping with stress, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) information, relationships, positive mental attitude, and the healthy family.
All of the above information is presented in large group “general sessions” or in smaller groups called "mini-workshops". After each general session and mini-workshop, participants meet in their "small group" to discuss the information and its implications on their own life. The same small group meets throughout the weekend, and it is here that many thoughts and feelings are shared.
Each small group is co-facilitated by trained teens, with adult staff support.
All participants receive workshop materials, a T-shirt and a group photograph. The cost of the weekend is $140. Snowball applications are available in the Guidance Office at each school and must be turned in by Friday, October 4. Due to camp deadlines, no participant refunds can be granted after October 4.
